Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

This Sunday, June 6, 2021, at 10:00 AM, three hundred and eighty-six seniors will receive their diplomas as Algonquin Regional High School holds its 58th graduation ceremony. I want to take a minute and congratulate the Class of 2021, as well as their parents and guardians, for reaching this significant educational milestone. For those interested in watching the event, the graduation will be streamed live on YouTube.

Next week, on Monday, June 7, and Tuesday, June 8, 2021, the forecasted weather is hot and humid. Several surrounding school districts have already announced that they will hold early release days on Monday and Tuesday due to the weather. At this time, I have no plans to shift Monday and Tuesday to early release days due to the forecasted weather. Principals will work closely with their faculty and staff to provide additional masks and water breaks and will encourage holding classes outside.

Lastly,  Thursday, June 10, and Friday, 11, will conclude the District’s COVID-19 Pooled Screening Program for the 2020-2021 school year. I want to thank families whose children participated in the program, as it provided our District with excellent data. The District will monitor the trajectory of the virus over the summer and consult with the Medical Advisory Team to determine if running a screening program in the fall is necessary. I do want to take a minute and thank our school nurses for their work leading and implementing the COVID-19 Pooled Screening Program. As of last week, our school nurses have conducted over 42,658 screenings.

Respectfully,

Gregory L. Martineau

Superintendent of Schools

Town of Southborough Survey:  Go to BetterSboro.org

“Go to BetterSboro.org to give the town feedback!” This survey has been put together by various town departments to collect your opinions on how to improve the town and schools. Completing the full survey will take 20-30 minutes. If you have more limited time, you may skip sections that are of lesser interest to you. Your responses are anonymous. Please encourage your friends and neighbors in Southborough to complete this year's Survey!”

Start Time Communication Reminder

In June of 2020, after a multi-year process and study, the Northborough, Southborough, and Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committees voted to approve the Start Time Task Force's proposal to start school later at Algonquin Regional High School (8:00 AM). The new start time configuration impacts many of the schools across our District.

The new configuration will be implemented at the start of the 2021-2022 academic year. We are asking families to review the school start times in preparation for the 2021-2022 academic year. The new start times are shared below. We would like to thank the Start Time Task Force for its dedication, commitment, and work. The start time topic was examined from all angles, and a viable proposal will be implemented. For more information about the start time change and the history of the project, please visit:  School Start Time District Webpage

The schools impacted will be adjusting their schedules to account for the changes. Another noticeable difference is that Algonquin and Trottier students will be riding buses together in Southborough (Tier 1) and Algonquin and Melican students will be riding buses together in Northborough (Tier 1). As a result, in Southborough, Neary, Woodward, and Finn students will be riding buses together (Tier 2). In Northborough, the separation of buses for elementary schools is unchanged. This is a change from past practice and is one that we will be monitoring closely.

You can direct your questions, comments, and concerns to Keith Lavoie, Assistant Superintendent of Operations, or your building principal.

The changes will take effect when school opens for the 2021-2022 school year.
