Informational Update: Updated District Guidelines

May 18, 2021

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

On Monday, May 17, 2021, Governor Baker announced that the face covering order will be replaced with a face covering advisory on May 29th.  Additionally, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) updated its guidelines.  On Tuesday, May 18, the Medical Advisory Team met to review this new information and the current mask guidelines. Taking into consideration the vaccine rate among our students, the participation in weekly pooled screening, and the recommendation from the CDC that schools should continue to implement and layer prevention strategies including prioritizing the universal and correct use of masks as well as maximizing physical distancing, the Medical Advisory Team is making the following recommendations:

Elementary School (Grades PK-5)

  • Masks are required on the bus

  • Masks are required while in the school building (except when eating)

  • Masks are required at recess

  • Classroom cohorts can intermingle at recess

  • Masks are not required in an outdoor classroom setting if seated and >6 feet apart

  • Sharing of materials is allowed

As restrictions are lifted, the Medical Advisory Team will continue to monitor the data and make adjustments to these guidelines as necessary.

Respectfully,

Gregory L. Martineau - Superintendent

Mary Ellen Duggan - Wellness Coordinator

Dr. Safdar Medina - District Physician
